First, we need to download a copy of the media recording/upload. There are different ways to download the file. Listed below is one option:

- Enable Panopto Recordings in a test or development course.
- Click on Panopto Recordings on the navigation bar.
- Click on the green “Create” button and select Upload Media.
- Upload the video file from step 1.
- After the video file has finished processing click on “Panopto Recordings” on the MyClasses Canvas navigation bar.
- You should see the video you just uploaded, hover over the video and select edit.
- On the left hand side select “Captions”.
- Left click on “Import Captions”.
- Select the feature for automatic captions.
- You will now need to review and edit the captions as necessary. The accuracy of the automatic captioning differs based on the clarity of the recording. When you are finished select publish in the top right. The program will ask you if you want to leave the editor. Select “Ok”.
- Return to the Panopto Recordings page on MyClasses Canvas.
- Hover your mouse over the video again and select settings.
- Select “Captions” and “Download File”. You now have the SRT file necessary to add captions to your media upload/recording.
