To grade an assignment with Turnitin submission, you will enter a grade in SpeedGrader as you would do for any assignment type. However, you can access the Turnitin Originality Report for more details about the submission if you would like more information before entering a grade for that student.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Navigate to the Canvas course containing the assignment, then select the Assignments tool from the course menu.

  2. Select the title of the assignment from the Assignments page.

  3. On the right hand side of the Assignment details, select SpeedGrader from the Related Items menu.

  2. The SpeedGrader automatically previews the student assignment in the DocViewer area so that you can review the content of the submission.  Then, in SpeedGrader, you can manually enter a grade, and can leave comments by either typing them into the comment box, uploading feedback from another file, or by attaching audio/video comments.

  2. To easily switch to another students assignment, select the drop-down arrow to see a list of students to select a specific student to grade, or click the next arrow to advance to the next alphabetically ordered student to grade.

  3. You can also view the originality report for each assignment by selecting the percentage icon on the left hand side of the assignment, if you would like to view the Originality Report details before you enter feedback and a grade.

  2. The originality report will open in a new window using Turnitin Feedback Studio to display report details.  At the top right hand corner, you will see the total percentage of the assignment that matched with other sources. Below the score is the breakdown of each match, including where they were found. Review the Accessing and Interpreting Turnitin Originality Reports article for more details.

    If this is your first time accessing Turnitin Originality Report from Canvas, you will be prompted to agree to the Turnitin updated user agreement.

  2. After reviewing the originality report, you may return to the SpeedGrader window to submit the grade with any additional feedback you wish to include, as shown in step 4.
