In New Quizzes, Item banks are used to store questions for use in multiple assessments, for randomizing questions within an assessment and for sharing with others. You can use your item banks in any course where you have permission to create and edit an assessment using New Quizzes. Questions in item banks can be added to a New Quiz individually or as a randomized group. If you have an existing New Quiz that has questions you would like to share or retain for future use, you are able to easily create an Item Bank for them!

To create a new Item Bank from an existing New Quiz:

  1. Click on the “Quizzes” or "Assignments" link from the Course Navigation menu on the left side of your MyClasses Course.
  2. Identify the quiz that holds the questions you are interested in selecting and click the three vertical dots on the right side of your window (Note: this must be a “New Quiz” - look for the shaded rocket icon!)
  3. Select the “Build” option from the pull-down list

  4. Select Edit (pencil icon) on the right side of the question you wish to add to the Item bank.

  5. Scroll down and click the drop-down menu labelled “Item Banking” and select the “Add to Bank” option.

  6. Select “New item bank” and provide a title for the Bank (Note: It is suggested that you use the course ID to help identify your bank).
  7. Click on the blue “Add” button

  8. A message will identify the Item as “banked”
  9. Click Done at the bottom of the question.

  10. Identify the next question you wish to bank and select the “Add to Bank” from the “Item Banking” pull-down (See Step 5)

  15. Click done at the bottom of the question.
  16. Repeat Steps 10-15 for any other questions you want to save to your item bank.
  17. When you have finished adding all of your identified questions into the Item Bank, you can leave the quiz by clicking on the "Return" button in the upper right corner of your page.
