Previous versions of portfolios (eportfolio, folio) will be retired on June 30, 2026.
Portfolio is a new feature in MyClasses that brings together the best of teaching, learning, and reflection—all within Canvas LMS. This new capability supports the creation of two types of portfolios within the MyClasses environment: individual showcases and instructor-assigned evaluation portfolios, giving educators and learners the flexibility to meet a wide range of needs.
Showcase Portfolios
Showcase portfolios allow an individual (student, faculty, staff – anyone with a valid MyClasses account) to compile examples of work or achievements that can be shared with others. This type of portfolio allows the user to:
Collect work, reflect on growth, and tell their story in a single, customized place
Build personalized, skill-tagged portfolios that mix coursework, co-curriculars, and personal projects
Share content securely while enrolled or export portfolios for future use
Evaluation Portfolios
Evaluation portfolios are designed by instructors to support structured assessment and track learner progress over time. This type of portfolio allows instructors to:
Establish evidence requirements to align expectations and support consistent demonstration of competencies.
Monitor progress with real-time visibility into submission status and portfolio completion.
Review learner reflections and narratives to better understand learning and growth.

Individuals using ePortfolios (Legacy) will need to export their existing portfolio(s) and content and create a new portfolio under this improved system. See the KB article Exporting Existing ePortfolios for information on downloading items for use in a new portfolio or archived for personal retention.
