Around Mid-Term and end of Semester grading, it is especially useful for instructors to apply a grade for all missing or ungraded assignments for the entire course or all assignments within a specific assignment group (a feature within Assignments that allows an instructor to organize assignments by type or for weighted percentages). The Apply Score as Ungraded feature in the Gradebook allows instructors to do this.
Warning: Once this option is applied, it cannot be undone. However, instructors can manually change individual grades.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Within Grades, instructors have the ability to apply a grade for all ungraded or missing assignments across the entire course or a specific assignment group at once using the Apply Score to Ungraded option.
This option is located by hovering over the Totals column or an Assignment Group column in Grades and selecting the Options icon (three dot icon)
Select Apply Score to Ungraded
To apply a certain grade for ungraded or missing submissions:
Enter the grade in the Grade for ungraded artifacts that will be applied to all graded activities.
(Optional) Check the Apply missing status to indicate to students that an item was missing if it previously had a dash "-".
If not at the end of the semester, you can use the Only ungraded artifacts that are past due to update grades for activities complete thus far in the semester.
If at the end of the semester, you can use the All ungraded artifacts to apply to all activities across the entire course (if the option was selected from the Totals column) or by each assignment group.
To apply the bulk change of grades, select Apply Score.
After using this option instructors will receive the following confirmation which directs them to refresh the Grades area to see the updated scores.
