How to Create Group Assignments

In MyClasses, a great part of the groups feature is that you can create assignments. You can create an assignment in the course and assign it to groups. This means that only one group member has to turn in an assignment for the entire group.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Open the Assignments tab from your course menu.

  2. Click “+ Assignment” in the top right corner.

  1. Add your assignment details. Review Assignments article for more information on how to create an assignment.

  2. Select “This is a Group Assignment” box.

Note: Assignments done via External Tool are not eligible for group assignments.

  1. You can assign the same grade to all students in the group, or assign grades individually. If you decide to grade students individually select “Assign Grades to Each Student individually.”

  2. Select the Group set you are using for this course.

Note: Groups created by students cannot be used for group assignments and will not be available in the dropdown menu.

Assign Different Dates for Groups

  1. By default, the assignment is assigned to everyone in your course. To add different due and availability dates for specific groups or users in your course, click the + Assign To button.

  2. Type a portion of the group name in the new "Assign To" field

  3. Click the group's name when it appears in the list.

  1. Be sure to either “Save & Publish” the assignment when you are ready to make it available to your students, or “Save” your assignment when finished.
