Services for Online Programs

Scanning and Home Delivery

SU students enrolled in fully online programs can register and request library services including digitization of articles and book chapters and home delivery of books from the SU Libraries as well as those requested from USMAI and interlibrary loan libraries. To register, complete this form, and someone will contact you after confirming your eligibility.

Eligible students can have one article from a journal or one chapter from a book scanned and delivered electronically by clicking on the Request Partial Scan button under the Get It heading in the SURF search results.

Eligible students can ask to have print books shipped to your home address. Once you are signed in to SURF, a check box option will appear in the Get It section for all physical items owned by SU Libraries and other USMAI libraries. Click on Request Delivery to Home Address (Distance Students Only), and additional text will include a link to register as a distance student.

SU Libraries will pay to ship the book to you, and you will be responsible for shipping it back to us before the due date. Books will be shipped via UPS to your address listed in the system, and you will be responsible for returning the items either in person to any USMAI library or via a trackable option including UPS, USPS, or FedEx.

MakerLab Services

If you are currently enrolled in a fully online program at SU, you are eligible to use the MakerLab’s 3D printing and laser cutting/engraving services remotely by following the steps below. You can read more about the available services on the SU Libraries MakerLab page. If you have any questions about the process, feel free to reach out to us at makerlab@salisbury.edu.

Step 1 - Make an Appointment Online

Please make an appointment using our online appointment system. Select the day and time you’d like to meet with a MakerLab staff member using Zoom. In the "Project Description" field, be sure to mention that you are in an online program and would like to meet remotely. Once your appointment is confirmed, we will email you a Zoom link to use at your scheduled appointment time. Be sure to save this email so you can access the Zoom link when you need it. If you lose track of it, you can email us at makerlab@salisbury.edu to have it re-sent to you.

Step 2 - Send Us Your Files

If possible, please send any files to us before your appointment time. This could be 3D model files, images, or anything else that we might need to print your project. If you can't provide the files in advance, we will provide instructions for getting them to us during your appointment.

You can send the files by:

  • using the direct upload option provided in your appointment confirmation email,

  • by sending an email to makerlab@salisbury.edu, or

  • by sending us a link to the website where you found the files.

Step 3 - Meet with Us Remotely

During your appointment, a MakerLab staff member will load your files into our software and discuss options for printing. We'll be happy to answer any questions you have about the best way to print your object at that time. If your object can't be printed for whatever reason, we will work with you to identify other options to achieve your project’s goals.

Step 4 - Pick Up Your Print

Once your print completes, we will remove it from the printer and remove any support material for you. Please allow 2-3 business days for us to process the models. If you need the object sooner, let us know during your appointment.

If you can come to campus, we will hold the printed object in the MakerLab for you until you are able to retrieve it. You can also designate someone else to pick up the object for you if you like.

If you are not able to to come to campus, we can make arrangements to ship the object to you. If you choose the shipping option, please note you will be responsible for the shipping costs, and some objects may be too fragile to ship.

Charges for successful prints that can't be paid for in person will be added to your SU account, which will show up for payment online after 30 days. You can pay this bill as you pay most of your other University expenses. See the Cashier's Office website for more information.
