Borrowing Policies

Students, faculty, and staff from Salisbury University, other University System of Maryland libraries, may borrow materials from the SU Libraries with a valid Gull Card or USM ID.  Wor-Wic Community College students and faculty as well as Maryland residents of Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, and Dorchester Counties age 18 and over may apply for a Special Borrower Card at the Library Service Desk and must present it when borrowing items. Borrowing Books

General Collection, Juvenile, Curriculum Resource Center, and Other Books

Most books in the SU Libraries are available for checkout. The policies above apply to books in the Main Library’s 3rd floor stacks as well as cookbooks, graphic novels, and the English Language Institute Collection. They also apply to books in the Curriculum Resource Center’s General Stacks. Some books are non-circulating and must be used in the library. These include items in the following collections:

DVD Drives

Our external DVD drives allow you to view DVDs and listen to CDs from our collection, even if you don't have a disc drive on your computer. They connect with a standard USB cable.

We offer two types of headphones, standard wired headphones with an audio cable and premium wireless noise canceling headphones to block distractions.

iPads

Laptops

We offer two types of laptop loans, depending on the use case. For short-term needs such as taking an exam or completing an assignment, patrons can check out a short-term laptop until the end of the day. For longer term needs, such as replacing a personal laptop that is under repair, patrons can check out a long-term laptop until the end of the semester. You can request a long-term laptop online.

Binoculars and Tripod

The SU Libraries have partnered with SU’s Nature RX program to offer sets of binoculars and tripods with phone holders so you can snap photos of the treasures you find in nature. You can also choose from various foldable bird and plant guides to bring along and help you identify what you’re seeing.

These policies apply to DVDs in our General Collection as well as those in the International Film Collection (French, Spanish, and German films). You can also borrow a DVD drive to connect to a computer that has a standard USB port.

As a borrower, it is your responsibility to:

• keep the borrowed items in good physical condition

• be aware of the library materials' due date as shown in your library accounts

• return or renew library materials by the due date

• return recalled material by its recall due date as shown in your library accounts 

• inform the library of any changes to your name, address, or phone number

• report a lost card immediately to the library

• show an item’s damage to Circulation staff before borrowing, to avoid paying charges for pre-existing damage (this includes books, laptops, iPads, charging kits, etc.)

• pay any charges assessed to you
