How to Back Up your Data for Device Replacement

When transferring from one device to another you can back up your data several different ways:

Method 1: Save Desktop, Documents, and Pictures via OneDrive Back up

Click on the cloud icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (near the clock)

Select the settings icon image-20250603-111113.png in the top right corner then select Settings.

In the OneDrive Settings box select Sync and backup on the left then choose Manage backup.

To save all the files in your Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders turn on (blue) those three options.

Select Save Changes

Method 2: Move files from your Desktop, Documents, Pictures, and other folders to your P drive.

Open File Explorer fileexplorericon.png (folder icon) and navigate to your P drive found under This PC.

With your P drive window open Copy (Ctrl + C) any needed file or folder and paste (Ctrl + V) to your P Drive.

  • Right-click the file you want to move.

  • Select Copy (or press Ctrl + C).

  • Click on your P: drive in File Explorer.

  • Right-click inside the folder and choose Paste (or press Ctrl + V).

Important Information on Saving Bookmarks/Favorites

Your saved passwords and favorites/bookmarked sites on browsers do not automatically save with your data. Please follow the instructions below to save your favorites/bookmarks on any browser that you use.

Google Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome.

  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Go to Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.

  4. In the Bookmark Manager, click the three-dot menu in the blue bar (right side).

  5. Select Export Bookmarks.

  6. Choose a location to save the file (usually ends in .html), then click Save.

Microsoft Edge:

  1. Open Edge.

  2. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

  3. Go to Favorites > Click the three-dot menu in the Favorites pane.

  4. Select Export favorites.

  5. Choose where to save the file (typically a .html file), then click Save.

Mozilla Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox.

  2. Click the Library icon (books icon) or open the Bookmarks menu.

  3. Select Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks (or press Ctrl + Shift + O).

  4. In the Library window, click Import and Backup in the toolbar.

  5. Choose Export Bookmarks to HTML...

  6. Select a location to save the file and click Save.
