Workday-HCM: Performance Improvement Plan for Managers

Overview:

This document outlines how a manager can initiate and complete a Performance Improvement Plan for an employee.

The recommended browser for accessing Workday is Google Chrome. However, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari may also be used.

Initiate Performance Improvement Plan

Notes:

  • This action is used when an employee receives an unsatisfactory rating in a performance review or has shown a decline in performance that needs to be addressed.

  • Refer to your institution’s handbook or polices regarding a performance improvement plan.

 

  1. Enter the Worker’s Name into the Search bar and select the Worker.

  2. The Worker Profile displays.

  3. Select Actions in the blue pane under job title.

  4. Hover over Talent and choose Start Performance Improvement Plan.

  1. The Start Performance Improvement Plan for Employee pop up displays.

  2. Fill in the following fields to start the Performance Improvement Plan for Employee:

    1. Employee: automatically populates; confirm the Employee Name.

    2. Review Template: use the Prompt to select the Performance Improvement Plan.

    3. Period Start: use the Calendar to select the Period Start.

Note: See employee handbook for information regarding specific date ranges.

d. Period End Date: use the Calendar to select the Period End Date.

Note: See employee handbook for information regarding specific date ranges.

  1. Select Submit.

  2. The Start Performance Improvement Plan Confirmation pop up displays, indicating the next step.

  3. Select Open.

Note: If you close out of this screen, the task remains in My Tasks to return to later.

  1. The Complete Manager Evaluation page displays.

  2. Select Get Started.

  3. The Complete Manager Evaluation page displays to complete the Performance Improvement Plan.

  4. Enter Answers for all required questions in the Answers text box in the Improvement Objective/Action Plan section.

  1. Select Next.

  2. (Optional) Supporting Documents: attach any supporting documentation by dropping in files or choosing Select Files.

  3. Select Next.

  4. Review the information and select Submit.

Notes:

  • After Submitting the Performance Improvement Plan, it will be reviewed and sent back with an approve/send back/deny for the Performance Improvement Plan.

  • Once approved, the Manager will receive a notification to complete a To Do: Meet with Employee on Performance Improvement Plan.

Complete To Do for Performance Improvement Plan

Notes:

  • Once the Performance Improvement Plan is approved, the Manager receives a notification to complete a To Do: Meet with Employee on Performance Improvement Plan in My Tasks.

  • After meeting with the employee, the manager can complete the action item for Meet/Discuss with the Employee: Manager Evaluation: Performance Improvement Plan: EMPLOYEE NAME.

  1. In My Tasks under All Items, select the Meet/Discuss with the Employee: Manager Evaluation: Performance Improvement Plan: EMPLOYEE NAME item.

  2. (Optional) Enter any Comments in the Comments text box related to the Performance Improvement Plan and meeting with the employee.

Note: Please review your institution’s policies and procedures for comments needed for a Performance Improvement Plan.

  1. Select Submit.

Notes:

  • After submitting the To Do, the employee will receive a notification to acknowledge the Performance Improvement Plan.
