Workday-HCM: Disciplinary Action for Managers

Overview:

This document explains how a manager can initiate and view disciplinary actions for an employee.

The recommended browser for accessing Workday is Google Chrome. However, Mozilla Firefox and Apple Safari may also be used.

Initiate Disciplinary Action

Note:

  • Please refer to your employee handbook for any disciplinary policies for your institution.

  1. Enter the Worker’s Name into the Search bar and select the Worker.

  2. The Worker Profile page displays.

  3. Select Actions in the blue pane under job title.

  4. Hover over Talent and choose Start Disciplinary Action.

  1. The Start Disciplinary Action for Employee pop up displays.

    1. Employee: automatically populates; confirm the employee’s name.

    2. Review Template: use the Prompt to select the appropriate Disciplinary Action.

Note: Selecting Suspension/Termination for the Review Template launches the Termination business process for the employee after the disciplinary action process is completed.

c. Disciplinary Action Reasons: use the Prompt to select the Disciplinary Action Reasons. Note: You may select more than one reason.

d. (Optional) Related Disciplinary Actions: use the Prompt to select Related Disciplinary Actions.

e. Period Start Date: use the Calendar to select the Period Start Date.

f. Period End Date: use the Calendar to select the Period End Date.

  1. Select Submit.

  2. The Start Disciplinary Action Confirmation pop up displays indicating the next task to Complete Manager Evaluation.

  3. Select Open.

Note: If you close out of this, the task remains under My Tasks to return to later.

  1. The Complete Manager Evaluation page displays.

  2. Select Get Started to complete the Manager Evaluation.

  3. The page redirects to the Complete Manager Evaluation page.

    1. Disciplinary Action Information: review the information and select Next.

    2. Complete the Manager Evaluation questions and select Next to move through and complete all questions.

  4. Review the information and select Submit.

Notes:

  • The Human Resources Department will receive a notification to review and approve the completed Manager Evaluation. Depending on HR’s review, further action may be needed by the manager.

  • BSU, UBALT, SU, and CS: Once the Human Resources Department approves the disciplinary action, the employee will receive a notification to acknowledge the disciplinary action in Workday.

  • FSU: Once the Human Resources Department approves the disciplinary action, the manager will receive a notification to complete the employee acknowledgement and necessary signatures outside of Workday.

  • Selecting Suspension/Termination for the Review Template will launch the Termination

business process for the employee. Before the termination process is complete, various steps will be reviewed, approved, and submitted. These steps vary based on several factors related to the employee and position.

View Previous Disciplinary Actions

  1. Enter the Worker’s Name in the Search bar and select the Worker.

  2. The Worker’s Profile page displays.

  3. Select the Performance tab in the blue pan under the job title.

  4. Select the Disciplinary Actions tab to view any disciplinary actions documented for the Worker.
