Recommended Android and Apple Teams notification settings

If you choose to install the Teams app on your mobile device and have notifications enabled, there are a few settings that can be helpful to prevent unwanted notifications.

The top four options lets you choose what kind of notifications you want on your mobile device. Most people select Chats and calls only. You can also choose Custom to have more control over what you get notified for.

At the bottom section of this screen you can select when to block notifications. It’s generally recommended to enable “Block when active on other devices”. This will ensure that when you are on your computer getting chats and calls your cell phone is also not going off.

The “Block during quiet hours” enables you to set a schedule for when you want Teams notifications to appear on your phone. Generally you would set the “Certain hours” option to Monday through Friday with the start and end times opposite of your work hours. In this case if your work hours are 8AM to 4:30PM you would set your quiet hours to start at 4:30PM and end at 8AM. This will prevent any notifications happen during non-work hours.

The All days option lets you select days that you will get no notifications at all. Generally it’s recommended to select Saturday and Sunday for this. This prevents any notifications from appearing on the selected days.

Android phones give you a few additional options for exceptions. It’s generally recommended to disable the Incoming Calls, Important Messages, and Mentions, but leave the Badge counts enabled. This will stop any notifications from coming through, but still give you the little number that appears over the Teams icon letting you know you have notifications.

All of these settings are just general recommendations. If you choose to install Teams on your device you can customize your settings however they fit your position and work style.
