Teams Notifications Settings
Disabling notifications in Teams can be handled through the Teams Mobile app, the Teams desktop app, and/or by exiting Teams. You can also manage email notifications received when inactive.
To disable notifications in the Teams Mobile App:
Open the Teams Mobile App on your phone and click on your initials in the top left corner
Select Notifications
Under the Notifications option you will see a section titled Block Notifications, choose During quiet time to turn off notifications while away.
You can set Quiet time hours while off of work or Quiet days on the weekends. Turning this option on will block notifications from arriving during selected Quiet time.
To disable notifications in the Teams Desktop App:
When you click on your initials in the top right corner you are given several options.
- You can use the pulldown to change your current status.
Available is when you’re active in Teams and don’t have anything in your calendar (no meetings or calls, for example). Note that Teams will automatically set your status from Available to Away when you lock your computer or when it enters idle or sleep mode. On mobile, this will happen when the Teams app is in the background.
Busy is when you want to focus on something, and you do want notifications to pop up. If you’re in a meeting or call, Teams will automatically change your status to In a meeting or In a call (Busy) when not set to Do not disturb.
Do not disturb is when you want to focus or present your screen and don’t want notifications to pop up.
Be right back is when you want to say you’re temporarily away. It’s never set automatically.
Appear away is when you need to work without responding right away.
Appear offline is when you want to indicate that you're not signed in to Teams, so will not be responding until you're back online. You'll still receive notifications if anyone messages you.
- You can create a message that gives your hours.
- You can select Settings to change Notifications options.
In Settings select Notifications and you are given the option "Play sound for incoming calls and notifications" disable this option to disable pop ups from Teams on the desktop.
If you disable Teams notifications you can still receive notifications from Windows. To disable Windows notifications click on the Action Center icon on the bottom right corner or your screen and choose Focus Assist from the pop up of choices. Clicking it once will put it in Priority Only mode, twice puts it in Alarms Only mode, three times puts it back in standard mode.
To Exit Teams:
Another option for stopping notifications is to exit Teams.
In the Teams Desktop App click on your initials in the top right corner and select Sign out.
In the Teams Mobile App click on your initials in the top left, go to Settings, and select Sign out.
This will sign you out of Teams on the devices and you will not receive notifications from Teams until signing back in.
To Manage Email Notifications:
Select to the top right then select Settings.
Under Settings choose Notifications.
Under Email > Missed activity emails choose the option that best suits you.
