Starting a Post in a Teams Channel

In order to utilize the Microsoft Teams chat/post feature in a Teams Channel, insure you have downloaded the MS Teams app for your desktop, laptop, or mobile device here.

What is the difference between chat and posts in Teams?
Creating a Post in a Microsoft Team, or a channel in a Team, is similar to a chat but these posts are visible to all members of the Team/Channel and cannot be sent to a select group of people as you can do within the chat function.

  • To create a new post in a channel, navigate to the TEAM and then choose the CHANNEL in the Team to begin!
  • Start typing in the area that states Start a new conversation or Start a post at the bottom of the channel.

    Start Post

  • When you make a post, you have a variety of objects you can include in your text post.

    • Attach file – allows a file to be attached to the post, the file is also added to the files area for that channel

    • Emoji – allows for emojis to be used in the post

    • Stickers – allows for digital stickers to be used in the post

    • Meet now – starts a Teams meeting with the members of the channel

    • Praise – allows channel members to praise other channel members
