ID&D KB How-to Guide

Working together to enhance teaching & learning. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to the ID&D team.

Each course management system (e.g. MyClasses) is different in terms of the question types it offers, the approach it uses to create and manage assessments, and even the terminology that is used. This is why Respondus allows the user to select an environment or “personality” that matches a particular learning management system or purpose for assessment creation. At Salisbury University, we are using two different types of personalities:

  • Instructure Canvas (for MyClasses Canvas)

  • Platform-Neutral (for creating paper quizzes/exams for your classroom)

To set your Respondus personality:

  1. Open Respondus.

  2. The program will open with the Start tab selected. A Current Personality dropdown will appear on the page.

    Start up layout of Respondus

  3. Select the desired personality, generally Canvas.

  4. Open or create a test or survey.

Start-up layout of Respondus but with the Open and Create option circled.

  5. If the opened file was created or imported using a different Respondus personality, a message will warn you and indicate that the file will be converted to the new personality if you continue. Click OK.

A Respondus pop up of a message being explained from step 5.
