The Panopto editor allows for web based editing from any Mac or Windows computer of Panopto Recordings. Microsoft Silverlight may be required for editing legacy Panopto recordings. If so, you can install Silverlight.

The Panopto Editor lets you create multiple versions, called "edits", of recorded sessions. The edit called “default” is created automatically, and contains the entire recording. You can modify the default or create additional edits without affecting the original session content.

  1. Log into MyClasses, select the desired course, and click Panopto Recordings from the course navigation.
  2. Move the cursor to the desired recording and select Edit.

The Edit button below a Panopt ovideo is highlighted.
TIP: By default, the entire recording is an automatically selected segment (portion of video that you want to keep).
  3. Click the scissors icon to enable cutting tools.
  4. To remove the beginning and end of a recording, click from the bar at the beginning or end of the time line and drag it inward to the point at which you want the updated recording to begin or end.

Arrows and annotations show where to click and drag to select beginning and ending areas of the video to be cut.
As you can see here, the beginning and ending are amended, and eliminated portions are grayed out.

Annotations highlight the areas that will be cut and the video that will remain based on the cut.
  5. To delete middle portions of your presentation, click once on the scissors icon and then, on the section of the presentation you’d like to remove, click and drag to highlight the section you’d like to delete.
  6. When completed, the segment can be adjusted by dragging the handles in either direction (if needed).

highlights and annotations to indicate how an edit can be adjusted.
  7. The final result is two segments (numbers one and two) that will be included.

Annotations and Highlights confirm what sections will be cut after adjusting the cut areas.
  8. Click "Publish" to overwrite the original recording, or “Revert” to restore old settings.

    To keep or discard changes.
