You may have an existing quiz or want to create a new quiz (using the New Quiz format) which will utilize questions that you have stored in an Item bank. You may want to import only one question, a group of questions, individual questions or have the quiz randomly select questions for a section of the quizfrom the Item Bank with the assessment. All of this is possible using a New Quiz and Item Banks!
Prior to importing questions it is advised to make sure the Item banks you will access are shared with your course. Refer to the KB article "“Sharing Your Item Banks" for information on how to do this.
To import a single question, or a static group of questions into a quiz:
This describes the process to follow when you want to include specific questions in a quiz.

Open or create the quiz you wish to import the questions into (refer to directions in the “Create a New Quiz” how-to guide on how to create a new quiz)
Click the red “Build” button in the lower right corner of the page.

If you are importing a question into an existing quiz, scroll down to where you want to import a question
Click the blue “+” button to add a new question.

Click on the folder icon in the upper right corner of the “Insert Content” pop up window

Select the “This Course” option from the pulldown menu on the “Banks” page that appears
Select the Item Bank you want by click on its name

Click the blue “+” button for the question you wish to import.

Repeat Step 8 for all questions contained in the Bank that you wish to import.

If you wish to use a different Item Bank to add other questions, click on the link "Item Banks" in the top left corner.
Select another bank by clicking on its name. Repeat Step 8 for additional questions.

When you are finished importing questions, close the Item Bank page by click the “x” in the upper left corner of the page, and return to your quiz.

Close the quiz by clicking the “Return” button at the top of the page.
To import a group of questions that can be randomized in a quiz:
This describes the process to follow when you want to import all questions of an Item Bank or have a random sample of the questions presented to students.

Complete Steps 1-7 as outlined above for importing individual questions.
Click on the button labeled "+ All/Random".

When this button is selected a question block will appear in your quiz in the right side of your window.
It will reflect the total number of questions available.

Close your Item Bank (See Step 12 above)

Click on the question block.

If you wish to use all of the questions in the Item Bank, select the option for "Use all questions".

Set the number of points for each question (all questions must be valued the same)
Click the blue "Done" button

If you want only of a subset of the questions randomly displayed, select the option for "Randomly select questions"
Enter the number of questions that will be used in the quiz. This must be a whole number, smaller than the total number of questions available.

The question block will now reflect the number of questions to be displayed in the quiz.
The question block will identify the number of questions that will be randomly selected, and the number of points assigned to each question.

Using Item Banks to add questions to an assessment
Click the (a) blue plus button to add a question and (b) select the Item Banks icon (above the list of question types).
Locate the Item Bank that contains the questions you want to use in the assessment.
Once you have located the Item Bank with existing questions, click on the title to see the questions.
To add a single question from the item bank to the assessment:
To add the entire Item Bank to randomize the delivery of the questions to the students, select the All/Random button:
Repeat steps 2-3 to add questions to your assessment. After adding all of the desired questions from Item Banks, click the X to close the Item Banks window.
To establish settings for randomized questions from an Item Bank, locate the desired Item Bank in the list of questions and select the pencil icon to edit.
To use and randomize all questions in the Item Bank, select Use all questions under Question selection.
To select a specific number of questions from the entire Item Bank, select Randomly select questions under Question selection.
Establish the number of points for each question in the Item Bank and click Done to save.
Continue adding questions. Once you have added all the questions to your assessment from Item Banks, you can adjust your Settings or click the Return button in the top right to return to your MyClasses course area.
