Instructors who are interested in separating the student's first and last name into separate columns can enable this feature. If a user has a preferred name that is different from their legal name, the legal name is displayed.

When student names are split, the Last Name column can still be sorted by type and order. You can also display secondary information such as Username. When split names are enabled, separate columns for the split names are respected and displayed in the Gradebook CSV export.

Step-by-step guide

  1. On the Course Navigation menu, select Grades

Course Navigation Menu where Grades is the third item on the list

  2. Click the View menu and select the Split Student Names option.

  3.  Once enabled, the gradebook will display the last and first name in separate columns.

Under student names, the gradebook should display separate first and last names

  4. If you want to combine the names, repeat step 2 and unclick the Split Student Names option.

This is an optional setting that faculty can enable and disable. It is not a default or required setting.
