IDD KB How-to Guide

Migrate a Classic Quiz to a New Quizzes

Question groups do not exist in New Quizzes. Instead, a question group is the same as an Item Bank where all questions that are to be randomly distributed are stored together. When migrating a Classic Quiz with question groups, each question group will convert to an individual Item Bank.

There are two ways of migrating a classic quiz

Method 1: Migrate a single assessment step-by-step guide

  1. In your MyClasses course, select Quizzes from the course navigation. Locate the Classic Quiz that needs to be migrated, then click the three dots to the right of it (a) and select Migrate (b).

  2. When the Classic Quiz is finished migrating, the duplicate New Quiz will appear with a filled in rocket icon. The original Classic Quiz will remain in the course with the outline of a rocket icon. Faculty are encouraged to review the New Quiz version of the assessment to ensure everything transferred over correctly and before deleting the Classic Quiz version.

Some Classic Quiz questions with embedded videos may not bring the video when migrating to a New Quiz. See our Known Concerns for additional information regarding images in questions.

Method 2: Migrate during import/course copy process step-by-step guide

  2. Select Import Course Content under the right Course Status.

  3. On the Import Content page:
    1. Select Copy a Canvas Course from the drop-down options for Content Type.
    2. Locate or select the previous course in which you want to copy the content.
    3. Select either All content or Select specific content to identify the elements you want to import.
    4. Ensure the Import existing quizzes as New Quizzes is selected.
    5. Click Import.

  4. Once the progress bar of the import is finished, navigate to Quizzes on the course navigation. You will notice that your assessments are in the process of being converted.

  5. Once the process is complete, review each New Quiz to ensure everything transferred over correctly. If you receive an error message such as "Oops!
