Lockdown Browser can be installed on both Mac and Windows devices. It is also available on lab, common area, and library loaner devices on campus however not all devices are equipped with a camera. Chromebooks will require installation of the Lockdown Browser extension.
To install LockDown Browser:
- Log into https://MyClasses.Salisbury.edu and navigate to the exam that requires LockDown Browser
- Download and install LockDown Browser - Select the link for downloading and installing LockDown Browser
Alternatively you can go to https://www.salisbury.edu/administration/academic-affairs/instructional-design-delivery/instructional-software/respondus-lockdown.aspx and select Install LockDown Browser.
The system should automatically detect which operating system you are using and direct you to the download for your appropriate system.
- From a Chromebook you will be directed to the Chrome web store, select “Add to Chrome” to install the LockDown Browser Extension.
- From an iPad you will be directed to the App store to download the Lockdown Browser App.

To use LockDown Browser:
-Open the Lockdown Browser application from the icon (see below) which then automatically opens a login page to MyClasses https://MyClasses.Salisbury.edu
Windows MacOS
-Login with your SU username and password then proceed to the course and test/quiz.
**Note: To take quizzes and tests that require Lockdown Browser, you much open the Lockdown Browser. Opening MyClasses from normal browsers like Edge, Chrome, or Safari will not allow you to open a quiz or test that requires Lockdown BrowserOpen a regular web browser (e.g. Edge, Chrome, Safari, etc.)
Login to MyClasses.
Navigate to the appropriate course and find the test or quiz that you wish to take.
When you select the assessment, LockDown Browser will open.
If it prompts you to open with LockDown Browser, look for the LockDown browser application previously installed on your device. See icon examples below.
Windows Mac
If LockDown Browser tells you that you are running a blocked program, you will be prompted to close the blocked program (e.g. instant messaging, some email programs). Choose “Yes” to allow LockDown Browser to automatically close them.
WebCam and Monitor Instructions:
If a quiz requires LockDown Browser and a webcam, follow the steps in the previous section. At this point, the Startup Sequence for the webcam begins.
You will first need to review and agree to the Terms of Use.
The Webcam Check will confirm that your webcam and microphone are working properly. (Audio is also recorded)
The remaining steps of the Startup Sequence will depend on settings chosen by your instructor. Follow the instructions and note your progress along the left side of the screen.

The quiz will begin after the Startup Sequence is complete. You cannot exit LockDown Browser until the assessment is submitted for grading.
