ID&D KB How-to Guide

Working together to enhance teaching & learning. If you need additional assistance, please reach out to the ID&D team.

At times faculty are asked or interested in knowing the amount of activity a student has engaged in within a course.  Did a student access and assignment?  Did a student review some content in a module?  For online courses, when was the last date/time they accessed the course.

This type of information is obtained from the Access Report of a student.

Tip! You can click on the images below to see them larger and with more detail.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. From within your MyClasses course, select People from the course menu.

  2. You will receive a list of all of your students which includes a date/time of Last Activity.  Warning: The last activity is for the entire MyClasses Canvas system and not a particular course.

Username, Login ID, Section enrolled in, Role in the course, Date and time of last activity in the course and total amount of time spent in the course is provided for everyone enrolled in the course.

  3. Click on the student’s name and a context card will appear with more student information in it. Click the student’s name from the context card for more options.

Shows a summary of the student in course, including links to grades and analytics. An arrow points to the student's hyperlinked name under their profile picture.

  4. On the right click the Access Report button for the student.

Click the Access Report button on the student information page for more information about that student's access in your course.

  5. The Access Report will then show the items and activities the student has most recently accessed including the date/times of that access.  This information should be used when reporting the last date a student has accessed or participate in a course.

A detailed list of the content in the course, how many times it has been viewed, how many times the user engaged with interactive content and the last time the user viewed the content.
