Located in the third floor of Conway Hall (TETC), the Integrated Media Center includes a Production Studio, a News Studio, an Audio Recording Studio, thirteen video editing suites, and nine audio editing suites. The focus of the IMC is on the creation of digital content. Students from Music, Art, and Communications take courses within the center, but the tools in this creative space may be used by any academic area or career field.

Students learn to shoot video in both a studio and field setting.  Video post-production can be accomplished on either PC or MAC using Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere professional editing software. Students can record music, voice overs or podcasts in the recording studio or suites using the Avid Pro Tools or Adobe Audition digital audio workstations (DAWs).

  • Thursday 10:00am-8:45pm

Facilities

Video Production Studio

The IMC includes a video production studio and control room totaling approximately 3,000 square feet. This studio and control room includes:

  • 4 Panasonic AK-HC930 HD cameras
  • 1 Ross Synergy 1.5MD Switcher
  • 1 Character Generator (CG) system
  • A QTV teleprompter system
  • 1 Avid Media Composer video editing system
  • Professional studio lighting
  • Yamaha DM2000 audio console
  • Desktop system tied into the iNews News Management System

News Studio

The IMC includes a studio and control room setup for news production and news casts, The space totals over 1500 square feet. This studio and control room includes:

  • 3 Panasonic AG-HPX500 cameras
  • 1 Ross Synergy 1.5MD Switcher
  • 1 Avid Deko 1000 character generator system
  • A teleprompter system
  • 1 Avid Media Composer video editing system
  • Permanently lit news desk
  • Permanently lit green screen
  • Permanently lit interview area
  • Interruptible Feed Back (IFB) setup to news desk and interview area
  • Desktop system tied into the iNews News Management System

The studios are for academic use only. Regularly scheduled courses take priority over any other use. The studios may be reserved by students or faculty at the checkout desk located at TE 334.

Media Services will provide technical support for your scheduled session but any media needed for production (such as blank DVDs, flash drives or removable drives) are the responsibility of the booking party.

The studios are available for outside and commercial functions at a cost, only during normal business hours and only with an authorized representative of the University present. For additional information on availability and cost contact Ray Fantini with Media Services.

The Bluewaters Foundation Audio Recording Studio

The IMC includes an audio recording studio and control room totaling over 1000 square feet. The audio studio includes:

  • Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstation (DAW)
  • Control Surface
  • Microphone Preamps
  • Analog to Digital and Digital to Analog CODECs

The audio studio is for academic functions only; normally scheduled classes take priority over any other functions. The room may be reserved at the checkout desk located at TE334 by students enrolled in specific courses.

Media Services will provide technical support for your session, but please remember any media needed for production (such as blank CDs, flash memory or removable drives) will be the responsibility of the booking party.

Video editing suites

The IMC includes ten Avid video editing suites. The suites include Avid Media Composer software, P2 Card Readers and a workstation with dual 20” monitors. Compact Flash card readers are available at the checkout desk. All computers are connected to the video storage network (Avid’s ISIS SAN).

Three Macintosh video suites include Adobe Creative Suite.

Audio Editing Suites

The IMC includes nine audio suites. The editing suites include:

  • Macintosh computer
  • Pro Tools DAW
  • Condenser microphone
  • Antelope microphone pre-amp and analog to digital/digital to analog interface
  • All machines are tied into the Avid ISIS storage network.

Distance learning/Teleconferencing rooms

SU supports six distance learning/teleconferencing rooms. All include Polycom HD internet based conferencing systems. Rooms include computers, annotation devices, Wolfvision document readers, DVD players and projection equipment. Rooms and locations include:

  • Conway Hall 355 (30 seats)
  • Conway Hall 381 (44 seats)
  • Conway Hall 382 (30 seats)
  • Conway Hall 301 (10 seats)
  • Conway Hall 328 (studio)
  • Perdue Hall 250 (30 seats)

The Distance Learning Facilities are for academic functions only; normally scheduled classes take priority over any outside functions. The facilities are available for outside and commercial functions for a nominal cost, only during normal business hours and only with an authorized representative of the University present. Tape to DVD, DVD to DVD Copies and DVD Production

For creating or copying of DVD discs you must provide source material on Mini DV, S-VHS, DVC-PRO or regular VHS tapes. all material has to be of good quality and contain no brakes in the program material.

Under no circumstances can any copyright material be edited, duplicated or reproduced in this area. No exceptions.

Facility or Students wanting to copy material to DVD format will have to pay a $5.00 fee for each disc. Media Services can provide a DVD authoring station for producing complex projects requiring directories, sub directories, close caption or other specialized applications. Departments can send material to be copied to Media Services by campus mail along with a work order to pay any duplication or media cost.

Recording events, classes or presentations

Media Services can record your event, class or presentation. This can take place in one of our two television production studios or at the site of your event.

Contact Ray Fantini with the date, location and description of what you want recorded and we will attempt to provide you with all the necessary information for a successful production.

Cost will vary with simple recordings with one camera being little more then the cost of the student labor to more elaborate productions that may involve an entire studio and crew. Also remember that the facilities and equipment are provided primarily for educational functions only, any non-Academic function is subject to a commercial rate schedule.

Please try to contact Media Services at least thirty days prior to the event with a description of the production, location and University work order with account for the paying department.

Editing Services

The IMC has 12 Avid Media Composer editing suites, 3 Final Cut Pro video editing suites, and 5 Pro Tools audio editing suites. These stat-of-the-art facilities are open 80 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. 

Salisbury University operates eight Avid non linear editing bays. At this time we can support the P2 Card, Blackmagic CF card, Mini DV, DVC pro, S-VHS and VHS formats. All Editing systems are integrated by a Avid ISIS Storage Network, Blackmagic Artist DNXIO A/V interfaces stations are included in both television studios and Conway 303 for editing in SD or HD formats.

Conway Hall room 335 is a classroom with an Avid Media Composer and a Macintosh with Pro Tools connected to the Avid ISIS network for editing instruction.

All editing systems can be reserved for use in the Integrated Media Center on the third floor of Conway Hall. Equipment is only available during regularly scheduled hours and during normal campus work days.

Equipment

All equipment in the Media Services area exist to serve the Students, Faculty and Staff of the University. Equipment may be signed out or used for academic functions only. You must have a valid Salisbury University ID for checking out gear. You must complete a Faculty or Student Contract. These are available at the checkout desk, or by contacting Mike Camillo via email or x-70031.

Equipment is available for a maximum 24 hours, or from Friday to Sunday night. Other lengths of time must be coordinated with Media Services. All equipment can be reserved and returned to the checkout counter located at TE334. This equipment is for coursework only, and professors should submit the above form

Hours of operation for the counter for the Fall and Spring semesters are: Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10AM to 11:45pm; Thursdays 10am to 8:45pm; Fridays 11:30am to 4pm; and Sundays 2pm-11:45pm.

Some equipment requires special training or orientation prior to use, and coursework will take priority. The final decision on approval of equipment use will be determined by Media Services. Media Services reserves the right to change or amend the policy without prior notice.
