One of the goals of Information Technology is to provide adequate and up-to-date computing devices to support the mission of Salisbury University. To this effect, the IT department has developed a road map that will guide the provision of new computing devices for new employees and replacement of full time faculty and staff primary computers that are five (5) years old or older.  Secondary devices are the responsibility of the department to replace.   If you are looking for the list of devices IT supports for new faculty or replacements, please review this information:

New Computer Configurations - Windows   OR   New Computer Configurations - Macintosh

Faculty

Full-time:  Newly hired full-time faculty may select either a Windows or Mac standard laptop device at the time they are hired.  Full-time faculty may select either a Windows or Mac standard model laptop at time of replacement of their primary device.

  • If a higher performance model is needed, IT will fund the amount equal to the standard model of that category. Additional funds for the price difference will need to be provided by your department. A purchase requisition is required to be sent to IT Procurement with the account code(s) for the difference in cost.
  • Moving from a higher cost device to a lower cost device does not result in any credit.   The financial allocation is based on the standard model of the device you choose.

Note:  In addition to the laptop, the faculty member will receive the following in addition to the standard device at no extra cost: one 27" Monitor, a docking station, and a wireless keyboard and mouse. Faculty/Departments can choose to fund the additional cost of the Advanced computer option or additional monitors/peripherals.

Part-time: Newly hired part time faculty are not provided a new device.  If the department does not have a device available for the employee to use, IT will  provide a used computer for the employee.  The department should request a computer by filling out a request from the Technology Support Center portal:  https://support.salisbury.edu/plugins/servlet/desk/portal/1

Staff

Full-time:  Newly hired full-time staff where the position is a new PIN are provided a new Windows laptop computer.  Newly hired full-time staff who are replacing a previous employee will use the computer vacated by the previous employee until the computer is five (5) years old.   Current staff will be provided the standard Windows laptop at the time of replacement.

  • If a higher performance model is needed, IT will fund the amount equal to the standard model of that category. Additional funds for the price difference will need to be provided by your department. A purchase requisition is required to be sent to IT Procurement with the account code(s) for the difference in cost.

Upgrade Timeline for Fiscal Year July 2021- June 2022

Phase One - Identification and Ordering (July 2021 through January 2022)

During the first phase of the plan, those employees who were given a new SU laptop to use during "COVID work from home"  in 2019/2020 will be contacted to replace their office computers with the new laptop they were given.   In addition, IT will verify data from the campus about the primary computers for current faculty and staff, and will begin contacting employees about replacements and order devices where needed.

Phase Two - Upgrading Computers - (January 2022 until completed)

Once the replacement computers have been received, during the second phase of the project IT will schedule a time with each faculty or staff member slated for computer replacement to install and migrate the customer's data to the new computer.

Note: All new Windows-based laptops will come with Windows 10.
